Born in Lima, Peru in 1958. Completed studies
in Genetics at the University of York, Great Britain, in
1981; then specialized
in Medical Genetics at the Universite de Lausanne, Switzerland,
1983-85. Started writing art criticism in 1989 and has
since
collaborated with Peruvian newspapers and periodicals and
publications devoted to the visual arts. Began engagement
in curatorial projects in 1991 and among the exhibitions
he
has contributed to conceptualize and produce are: "Documentos:
tres decadas de Fotografia Peruanas 1960-1990" (Three
Decades of Peruvian Photography 1960-1990), in 1997, and "El
Laberinto de la Choledad" (The Labyrinth of Cholo-ness:
20 years of Peruvian Visual Art 1979-1999) in 1999, sponsored
by HIVOS Stichtung.
He is the co-author of two books on recent Peruvian visual
arts: "Franquicias Imaginarias" and "Puntos
Cardinales ". Lives in Lima and works at the Instituto
de Salud del Nino, the pediatric hospital of the Peruvian
Ministry of Health.
