"FRANZ.OST"

 

For TB 2000 I propose to visit Austrian sculptor Franz West

together with Taiwanese photographer Ben Yu;

referring to the work of Franz West and his "Paßstücke" ("adaptives" )

I want to adjust him to the present situation;

when I was learning Chinese Knots in Taiwan for one year in 1999 , I realized that the hardest part is not to make the knot, but to adjust it and to move it into the right shape;

the Pan Chang Knot-Performance shot by Ben Yu was on the one hand an answer and extension to the work of Jui-chung Yao, who was one of the participants, on the other hand a performative attempt "to be or knot to be" (a heterogenous group),

defrosting the History of Museum in front of the Museum of History.

So I will make Franz West slit eyes with my fingers,

while Ben Yu will make a photo portrait of this situation;

replying to the "touristic aspect" of TB 2000 I want to design a page/chapter

for the next edition of Lonely Planet Taiwan ; the planned photo shot could be part of this as well as a link in the web-edition to my internet-EXPOsé-in-progress

On the just finished International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin (11th to 15th of March, 2000) I realized that Taiwan is not a touristic point in focus; publishers like DuMont and Merian till now didn’t edit a Taiwan guide; emphasized themes on the fair were a special conference "Senior Citizens and Tourism - we ‘re taking longer to grow old" and the Tourism Studies Center as a intermediary between research and business;

But at the latest since 19th/20th of June 1999 we know that there are

and produced by myself sponsored by Franz.Ost Foundation;

TZI zur manifesta 3

During the last manifesta 2 in Luxembourg one of the invited participants Bert Theis organized a "new art workshop" as part of his work; he invited artists from different countries to discuss and talk about their work during one week (7.7.-16.7.98).
Together with Simone Decker and Stephanie Juenemann I declared July 11th 1998 as the "SubIndependence Day of manifesta 2", selling fresh herbes of Tobias Rehberger’s garden work "Within view of seeing" opposite of the "Aquarium" of the Casino Luxembourg; we called this "Tobi’s Quark Express".
The money we earned we gave to the Casino and forced the Directeur Artistique Enrico Lunghi to publish our "subsponsorship" in his next publication;
so if you look insight the cover of "GARE DE L’EST" (12.12.98-21.2.99) curated by Lunghi and Hanru you can read the exact text.

Living and working for one year in Taiwan R.O.C. in 1999 has meant for me not only facing, but also practicing (inner)Asian geological and political (Strait) tensions and borderline syndroms such as the big earthquake from 21 of September;
these driftings have led me to proclaim this geopolitical movement as a real-time "Cities on the Move 921" and the need for "self-planned aftershocks" during "Cities on the Move 6" in Bangkok (9.-30.10.1999), Hou Hanru and Hans Ulrich Obrist invited me to participate in;

after coming back to Berlin close to 2000 BC this also makes me reflect my European roots and (b)orders; the numerous fake-labels in China (Like, Temgo...) inspired me to invent a European fake-label called "Osterix"
connotating a large and popular history of "technologies of resistance"
(cp. Asterix & Brener) with all its paradoxes.

How to draw the line ?
One strategy could be "to touch the nose of Hans Haacke" (cp. A. Brener),
another labelization inste@d of stabilization:
